The Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) was launched by the Government of Pakistan in July 2008 in honour of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Initially, its aim was to provide direct financial assistance to women from the poorest households to strengthen their financial position and reduce poverty.
